Just thought of updating this blog with my Wayanad Trip as it would be useful for some one in future.
Wayanad is a place in Kerala , about 300 Kms from Bangalore, we decided to spend a week end in wayanad as this was my week end after my 6th sem Exams.
In two days, we 4 members decided to cover as much places as possible in a swift car.
We choose the route Bangalore-Mysore-Nagerhole-Wayanad for going and Wayanad-Gundelpet-Mysore-Bangalore for returning back.
We started at 5.00 AM saturday (25-12-10), reached Mysore at around 8 had break fast and drove through the Nagerhole Wild life sanctury. Traffice is allowed only between 9 AM to 6 PM via that sanctury.
We spotted some wild deers , Forest pigs and some few monekyes in the sanctury,we slowly drove and reached wayanad at 12.30 via Mananthavady.
Our troubles started here, there are 2 main towns in wayanad , they are Sulthan Bathery(SB) and Kalpetta(KT) within 20 Km distances. Edakkal caves is a place near SB, we almost reached KT where most of the toursit attractions are present but just seeing a board towards edakkal caves (22km) we turned our car to Edakkal caves which is near SB. We reached there at 3 and unfortunately it was closed :( due to maintenance works.
Then we found a Sign board to Meenumutty Falls, we travlled to that spot and reached at around 4.30 , People are allowed only between 9 AM -5 PM , we some how managed to reach in at time.
Meenu Mutty falls is a good treking spot more than falls . There are a few small streams and a big waterfalls in which we cannot touch water unless during summer seasons when water flow is less.
We took some good snaps aand reached back to Kalpetta at 7.30, we searched for a few tourist homes and found one for 1400 per night for 4 people, I then learnt its better to book prior than searching on the fly. Finally slept for the day with good snoring effects of my friends and also with the learning that Planning is very important for travel :).
Next day morning I woke up, opened my laptop, searched for all the near by places from kalpetta , there are 3 good places (Soochipara falls, Poovakote lake, Banasura dam).
We reached Soochipura falls at 11 AM, with a small trecking we found good water falls where we can play in water, we then started to Poovakote lake at 3 PM after lunch at the falls. There are good sceneries on the way with fully covered Tea and coffee estates.
Reached Poovakote lake at 4 PM sunday , again it would be closed at 5.PM, some how managed to get the tickets for boating and pedalled for 20 Mins. It was a nice experience .We could not explore Banasura Dam as it was a getting late to reach bangalore.
Started to bangalore at 5.30 PM reached banglore at 12.30 PM with a dinner break at Mysore.
As a whole this was a tightly packed trip with pleasure and learning as well.
Following are the some of the learning.
1) Wayanad requries atleast 4 days to cover all the places.
2) We cant cover this over 2 day week end
3) Each place is some approx 25 KM distant far, so maximum 2 places can be covered on a day if we want to enjoy peacefully.
4) We can also reah calicut beach(Arabian sea) ~80 KM from wayanad.
5) Plan very well before the trip.
So this was a memorable christmas , I will soon forget all these places names. Hence documented in this blog.
Cheers :).
Thiru
